Pind Daan is the offering of pinds, balls of cooked rice or barley flour mixed with sesame and ghee, to departed ancestors. Scriptures describe it as essential for granting peace to the departed and fulfilling a family’s duty to its lineage. Kashi (Varanasi) is revered as the centre of ancestral liberation, and families travel here from across India and abroad to perform it.
